THE TIMELINE
-
BOOK
Book all your beauty, hair, and self-care appointments.
SHOP
If you like to shop, start early to find the perfect pieces to wear. When ordering online, consider size variances and shipping times.
Keep in mind that you’ll have full access to our 600+ piece client wardrobe, accessory, and shoe closet. So, if shopping is not your thing, don’t stress.
HUNT
Don’t overlook your closet (or your significant other’s) for gems to accent your outfits. Remember, an oversized dress shirt or tie can be super sexy.
-
SKIN
Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize some more.
NAILS
Book or give yourself a mani / pedi or simply file and clean up your nails. Remember no polish is better than chipped polish. Soft and neutral colors work best.
BODY HAIR
If you choose to come in smooth, wax 2-3 days before your shoot. Include any hair you don’t want to be seen.
HYDRATE
Drink lots of water! Your skin will thank you. Hydrating will also help alleviate any stiffness after all the stretching you’re about to do.
LIPS
Consider some beeswax or a lip mask.
-
HAIR
Wash and dry thoroughly, with light products if needed. Please don’t flat iron or curl unless you are coming in already styled.
BODY HAIR
If you choose to come smooth, shave the night before or the morning of your session.
PACK
There is no baggage limit here. Overpacking is Okay. More is better than not enough. Make sure to pack a pair of underwear for trying on items from the client closet and a change of clothes for after your session. Also, remember to pack your credit card in case you decide to upgrade during your ordering session.
RELAX
Consider a bubble bath to help with any last-minute jitters.
-
EAT
Please eat before you arrive. We don’t want your blood sugar tanking. Avoid any foods that makes you feel bloated and drink lots of water.
FACE
Exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize your skin.
WEAR
Wear loose-fitting clothing like a maxi dress or sweats. No bra, socks, or underwear until after your session. No hair ties or watches on your wrists. We don’t want marks on your skin.
CHOOSING COLORS
When planning wardrobe for your session, we recommend colors that both compliment your skin tones and the aesthetic of our studio. The best choices are rich, deep jewel tones; warm earthy tones; soft pastels; and classic monochrome (black to white). Choosing high contrast colors and neon’s (unless we’re shooting the neon set) can be distracting and pull the viewers eye away from the intended focal point...you! These colors can also clash with our carefully thought-out studio design and have a messy result.

SELECTING OUTFITS
Don’t get wrapped up in tag sizes when purchasing lingerie. Sizing can vary drastically between vendors and we humans come in all different shapes and sizes. Choose outfits that make you feel good and fit well. When in doubt we like a little snugger fit versus too loose. Don’t let shopping be stressful. In fact, it’s often not even necessary. We offer hundreds of lingerie pieces for you to wear during your shoot. The only thing we require you to bring to your Experience is a thong for trying on pieces from our wardrobe.

What is my Body Shape?
RECTANGLE | BANANA
Most Common:
Similar hip, waist, & bust measurements, less curves, smaller bust.
HOURGLASS
Similarly proportioned top and bottom, despite a commonly larger bottom, clearly defined waist & substantial curves.
ROUND | APPLE
Wider torso, full bust & waist, flat bottom.
TRIANGLE | PEAR
Rounder on the bottom, smaller top, smaller bust.
INVERTED TRIANGLE
Wider top or shoulders, smaller bottom, larger bust.
Choosing Panties Based on Body Shape
RECTANGLE | BANANA
Try adding curves with bikini cuts.
High waist or classic briefs will likely be too much be too much, leaving you swimming in material.
HOURGLASS
Try hipsters or high waisted with more material and structure for larger bottoms.
ROUND | APPLE
Try high-cut, higher waist with thicker elastic.
TRIANGLE | PEAR
Try opting for a size larger than normal and pieces with more material like high waist or hipsters.
INVERTED TRIANGLE
PRO TIP
When talking undergarments, elastic is an essential element of top performing bottoms! Flimsy elastic wears out quickly and rolls down often. The lifespan of elastic can be shortened greatly if you’re putting them in the dryer.
CHOOSING A GREAT BRA
Support is a huge consideration for women. Some are comfortable aux natural, while others seek mid or full support. Whichever you choose, we are here to help you embrace it!
Don’t be afraid to float between sizes. Memorize your Sister Size, an alternate band and cup size that maintains the same cup volume.
Wear a T-shirt when shopping for bras. Don’t be afraid to jump around in the changing room. Often, women arrive home to realize too late that a little normal activity has them spilling out of their new cups.
Stray from the contour cup. (You know the popular molded T-shirt bra style.) Contrary to many mothers’ beliefs, less supported breasts have trouble filling these pre-fitted cups. Instead, try some unlined lace for something that will support and mold to you.
For smaller busts, consider brands that specialize in petite sizing.
BAND: This is where the support should come from and should always be parallel to the floor.
BRIDGE: The piece that connects the two cups and anchors the bra to the body. It should sit flush against your chest.
CUPS: Should fit smoothly; gaps underneath or spilling out are equally poor fits.
THIS OR THAT
BODYSUITS
VS
BABYDOLLS
Where did her body go? That's what we think when we see babydoll pieces. Most women will happily hide beneath mounds of material, but that is counterproductive to our mission here. If you desire a dress look, opt for a fancy robe or a skirt with a lace bralette that can be removed or pushed aside to show off your curves.
Bodysuits are incredibly flattering on all body types.
Higher cuts will make your legs look longer and booty look rounder, an effect that would be completely lost under a babydoll.
They are available in a large variety of styles with and without sleeves, more or less coverage, feminine and lacy or bold and strappy.
GARTER SETS
VS
MERRY WIDOWS
Merry Widows are essentially the long t-shirt of the lingerie world.
Generally, we avoid these because they double material over our favorite curves.
If you’re aiming for the sexy stocking list, opt for a 3 piece set with a garter belt.
Tips for Wardrobe Staples
Stop whatever you're doing and put these in your shopping cart now!
These babies are like putting on a superhero cape; they give you a super boost of confidence and look good on any booty. They can be worn solo or paired with high-waisted bottoms.
FISHNETS
The staple piece your lingerie drawer has been looking for. Flattering on every body type, can be worn as a set or paired with a cute color bralette or those fishnet stockings you already ordered.
HIGH-WAISTED BLACK BOTTOMS
WHERE TO SHOP
If you're on a budget or prefer to have an abundance of options, these vendors carry pieces that are very affordable and photograph well.
BUDGET FINDS
When you think lingerie these are probably some of the more common brands that come to mind. They also represent the middle ground of pricing.
CLASSIC BRANDS
These companies cater especially to us curvier ladies. Beautiful sets, stockings, and a much broader bra size range with no skimping on the sexy like most plus options out there!
CURVY
These brands are what dreams are made of when it comes to lingerie. If you desire a statement designer piece, look no further. But also be prepared for the extra investment. These outfits range from $200 - $1000+
LUXURY INTIMATES
FINE ART NUDES
Whether it's tasteful portraits with strategic placements of limbs and shadows or implied with the security of a sheet, rest assured we will allow you to step outside your comfort zone without pushing. The incredible thing about nudes is that they can powerfully display a dynamic range of moods. Your images can portray soft, vulnerable, and beautiful nudes or bold and sensual nudes and anything in between.

PLEASE DON'T...
Get wrapped up in tag sizes when purchasing intimates. Sizing can vary between vendors, and humans come in all different shapes, sizes, and measurements!
Bring outfits you're not in love with or showing wear/piling
Bring Props; you're not a product!
Spray Tan or use Self-tanner
Plan body-altering appointments close to your session, like Tattoos (temporary or permanent), Piercings, Laser Treatments, or Cupping -
Consider bruising and the risks of infection & swelling.
SPRAY TANNING
First and foremost, we have to get real about spray and self-tanners. Plain and simple, DON'T DO IT! It doesn't matter if it's a luxury provider, the number one selling self-tanning product, or your cousin Karen's natural airbrushed organic tan. I understand this can be difficult to hear, but the last thing I want is to jeopardize your session. We realize ladies often want a little extra glow for special occasions, but we promise you'll photograph beautifully without it!
PS: We can warm your skin up in post.
Why We Boycott the Spray Tan
Saturated Color
Remember that Friends episode... The one where Ross gets a tan? The color in tanning solutions appears quite saturated in the camera; This means you will be much more orange than you see in the mirror.
Editing this is extremely difficult and costly, if not impossible, which is why we refuse sessions with spray tans.
Uneven Color Distribution
There are areas where there is rubbing, like your bra band and armpits. Other areas where the tanner concentrates, such as your feet and folds between fingers.
Color Transfer
Regardless of how careful we are, there is unfortunately always color transfer to wardrobe or linens.
TANNING FAQ
You've read our strong feelings on spray tanning, but what about natural vitamin D and tanning beds?
If you're adamant about acquiring that little extra glow or you'll be spending time in the sun leading up to your session, then we have a few tips!
Use Sunscreen! This will help keep your skin even and protect you from UV rays and burning.
Tan up to a week prior to your session, and avoid tan lines!
Also, avoid listening to that friend who tells you, "Oh, they can just Photoshop that." Tan lines and burns are outside the standard retouching included with your images.
If using lotion in the tanning bed, take time to get even coverage, and be sure to clean your hands before climbing in.
Moisturize a lot! We can not stress the importance of doubling up your routine to compensate for the tanning.
Don't forget your lips. We often forget them until it's time to wear lipstick and they're chapped and flaky. Give them a brush when cleaning your teeth, and if you can never remember to carry lip balm. Check out one of these awesome Lip Sleeping Masks. This can easily be added to bedtime routine!
CHECKLISTS
-
Verify you've filled out your pre-session questionnaire and uploaded your ID
If you wax, do so a few days before your shoot to avoid bumps or redness. Even barely-there facial hair will be noticeable in your photos.
If you plan to visit a hair salon for a cut or color, give yourself several days to make sure you are happy with it.
Be sure to get a salon manicure and pedicure for a flawless finish. Hands and nails are featured in almost every shot. Pick a neutral color that won't distract.
Stay out of the sun. While a base tan might be nice in photos, red, blotchy skin will not.
DO NOT SPRAY TAN or use self-tanners! We will refuse to shoot a client who has recently been spray-tanned.
Drink plenty of water and moisturize for luminous skin. Dry skin can detract from a great photo. Sugar scrubs are your friend.
Lower your salt intake and avoid alcohol if you have concerns about retaining water.
Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit correctly. Steam or iron your ensembles and hang them properly.

Do you Share My Images?
That is totally up to you! Maybe you are not ready to share your images with the world. Perhaps you are only interested in sharing your images with a loved one. Maybe you work in a profession that requires an extra level of discretion. Whatever the situation, it is up to you whether you want to share your images.
Intimate photography is incredibly personal. Most of our clients have a story behind why they became interested in having a Boudoir or Erotic Experience, and part of that story may include sharing their images as a demonstration of their self-love and empowerment. As you explore our website or our social media feeds, you will see images from our clients. All of those clients have given us written permission to share their images.
We will discuss whether you want to share your images during your Image Reveal session and review our model image release. We will only share the photos you have approved.
What is Copyright?
Unless you are a content creator, photographer, or digital creator, you may have little reason to delve into what copyright actually means. The long and short of it is…Whoever presses the shutter to create an image owns the copyright of that image.
Boudoir By J Anderson / J Anderson Studios has the ownership of every image they take of their clients, regardless of whether these images are included in the final gallery or not. According to the US Copyright Law, the Copyright holder (our studio) is entitled to use these images. However, a professional photographer understands that sharing images without permission is both irresponsible and can be legally challenged. It can also be considered an invasion of privacy for the client.
The images you receive as part of your photography session are essentially a shared copyright. We allow you to own them and sometimes use them per the terms of the signed contract. We do not use your images unless you have given us permission in the form of a separately signed image release form.
As a client, it is important to note that any use of the image outside of our contracted agreement is prohibited. This includes selling the image to a third party, submitting it to a contest, allowing it to be used as a brand's poster child, or using it as a commercialized authoring photo on your book.
In some cases, you may want to have complete ownership of the Copyright for an image created by our Studio. This means that you will have unrestricted rights to use the image without giving us any credit for creating it. Once the Copyright trade is completed, we will no longer have any ownership or rights to that image. The cost of transferring the Copyright starts at $1500 per image.
Do I have to Get Naked?
Of course not!! Intimate photography is not about naked photos. The majority of our clients do end up going partially or entirely nude, even clients who did not necessarily plan to do so coming in, but that is up to you.
Before your Experience you will receive a questionnaire. We encourage clients to complete this questionnaire to give us some idea of their comfort level with different levels of undress and how much they want to be encouraged to step outside their comfort level.
Even lingerie is optional. There are so many different outfit ideas available. Many of our clients have specific outfits they bring to complement their desired theme. All clients also have access to our Client Closet to choose something that fits their personality, whether that is something lacy, something sheer, or something racy.
Still Not Sure What to Wear?
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Clothes are meant to fit you - not the other way around.
If you aren't a lingerie person (I'm not!), that's okay. Bring pieces that make you FEEL good.
Clothes are just the cherry on top of a beautiful sundae - nude is my favorite outfit!
